Amanda Holden ‘signed up as host of new BBC dating show’
Amanda Holden is one of the nation’s biggest stars who judges on talent show Britain’s Got Talent on ITV, and hosts Heart Radio’s weekday breakfast show.
It’s claimed the TV personality will be branching out into matchmaking after signing up to host a new BBC dating show, which will see single women try and pair themselves up with their dream man in a tongue-in-cheek show.
The format of the series is believed to similar to Blind Date, which late presenter Cilla Black hosted between 1985 and 2003 and Chris Tarrant’s 90s series Man O Man.
The new Cilla?
It is claimed the show’s executives reckon Amanda has all the characteristics to become the new Cilla Black.
A source told the Daily Star: “She is perfect for a dating show because she has a great sense of humour. Everyone working on the show thinks she has the potential to be just like Cilla was years ago on Blind Date. There’s a lot of excitement about this.”
Familiar territory…
It is claimed there are plans to air the show later this year – 30 years after Amanda appeared as a contestant on Blind Date aged 19 in what was her first TV appearance.
What will the show be like?
It is believed the format of the show will see single ladies pick from a line-up of partners, with rejected men departing in dramatic fashion through a trapdoor. The insider said: “The show won’t take itself too seriously. It will be a good laugh.”
She has had a rollercoaster of a year
Amanda was handed a blow by ITV last month when it announced that Britain’s Got Talent 2021 would be postponed until next year – after show bosses decided the pandemic would make filming too difficult.
Despite this Amanda is still set to earn £1million this year though her QVC range. Last weekend the presenter was widely criticised and reported to police after travelling to see her parents in Cornwall during lockdown.
In a statement, Amanda’s agent said she was “devastated” to break lockdown rules but had to after ‘receiving a distressing telephone call from her elderly father’.
