Enzo Maresca spoke to the media on Friday evening before of Chelsea’s last match of their pre-season tour in the United States.
The Blues won their first game of the tour on Wednesday evening, defeating Club America 3-0 in Atlanta. Chelsea then went to Columbus on Friday ahead of their match against Premier League champions Manchester City this weekend.
Maresca, who formerly worked for Manchester City under Pep Guardiola, was undoubtedly asked several questions about his old employers. Here’s everything Chelsea’s head coach said.
What exactly are you searching for in comparison to Manchester City?
“The goal is to constantly trying new things. Things we’ve been doing from day one. “Try to improve every day.
“But this is the only news I’ve gotten thus far. Also, they understand that while we’re competing or working, I like to concentrate on what we have here. That is, this game right now, followed by the Real Madrid game. This is the most crucial thing to me as a manager. Just concentrate on the most essential thing, which is the pitch.”
Will he practice with the first team if he returns to Cobham? There is currently no word on this. I can only tell that he contacted the club to find a solution. I don’t believe it’s anything new. Every summer, various football teams have issues with certain players, but they eventually find a solution and everyone is satisfied. Hopefully, the same will happen in this scenario.”
Could you picture Gallagher playing for your team?
“The team we have is made up of guys who, if they are in the squad, I will do all I can to utilize them and help them understand how we want to play. So I’m OK for the time being till the guy joins the team.”
Would you prefer him on the team once the window closes?
I’d want to have them all. If you ask the other manager the same question, they will provide the same response. The situation is the same as usual. Until the transfer window is open, anything may happen, including the acquisition or sale of players. Unfortunately, until the final day, anything may happen.”
Is it your choice whether he stays or goes?
“The club, Conor, and I are all focused on finding a solution right now. This is the primary goal. Then, when they discover a solution, I believe everyone is delighted. However, until a solution is available, it is impossible to determine the best option. My attention is on today’s training and tomorrow’s game, which is the most important thing to me.”
How do you feel about the Pepsi comparisons?
“I said the other day that I would want to have long hair and blue eyes, and my wife shares that desire. Unfortunately, we don’t have hair, and people assume… it’s something that people say, not something I’m concerned about.”
What is the difference?
“He is the best in the world and I am just another manager, this is the big difference.”
Have you had unpleasant chats with athletes regarding their future?
“At the moment, it’s Chelsea, but City had an issue with Julian Alvarez remaining or moving, as did Liverpool. It is not new. Every summer, all clubs face the same challenge. Players who want to remain or go, and in the end, we’ll find a solution that will satisfy everyone, including Conor.”
