Rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has been instrumental in leading the Indiana Fever to a four-game winning streak, and she attributes much of her success to a deeper understanding of the game.
“I feel like I have a better grasp of the game now,” Clark shared with reporters following Sunday’s 100-93 triumph over the Dallas Wings. “I’m more at ease with my teammates and more comfortable on the court. I’m playing more freely and being more aggressive.”
Clark delivered a standout performance with 28 points and 12 assists, marking her second consecutive double-double and her fifth game with over 20 points in the seven games since the WNBA resumed play after the Paris Olympics.
This surge in performance follows a challenging start to the season for Clark, who struggled with inconsistencies and the physical demands of professional basketball after her stellar collegiate career with the Iowa Hawkeyes, where she led her team to back-to-back national championship games.
The recent break seems to have rejuvenated Clark, as she plays with a renewed vigor that has propelled the Fever into playoff contention. The team’s record now stands at 17-16, their first time above .500 this season. Notably, Sunday’s game marked the first instance in franchise history where the Fever scored 100 points in back-to-back games.
Alongside Clark’s impressive play, Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell has also been in top form, scoring a game-high 36 points in the win over Dallas and surpassing the 20-point mark in seven consecutive games.
The Fever will aim to extend their winning streak to five when they face the Los Angeles Sparks on Wednesday.
