Former Cincinnati commit Mikkel Skinner is preparing to announce his college decision in the coming weeks.
Since Skinner decommitted from Cincinnati in September, numerous top college programs have expressed strong interest in the class of 2025 tight end. On Thursday night, Skinner revealed to A Sea of Blue that he plans to make his commitment announcement on either October 22nd or 26th.
The Kentucky Wildcats are considered the frontrunners for Skinner, but the South Carolina Gamecocks, from his home state, are also vying for the 4-star recruit. Skinner attended the Gamecocks’ first three games of the season and is planning another visit this weekend, as reported by KSR’s Zack Geoghegan.
Although Skinner saw South Carolina’s first three games, he also took an official visit to Kentucky during the second week of the season, when the Wildcats faced the Gamecocks. It wasn’t Kentucky’s best performance, as they lost 31-6 to South Carolina.
However, since that disappointing loss, Kentucky has managed a 2-1 record, which includes a narrow one-point loss to then-No. 1 Georgia and an impressive upset victory against then-No. 6 Ole Miss in Oxford.
While it remains uncertain where Skinner will decide to commit, Kentucky cannot be counted out with the presence of head coach Mark Stoops and recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow.
