Oklahoma didn’t play this past week, and as a result, the Sooners saw minimal movement in the national rankings despite a chaotic weekend for some of the top-ranked teams. Oklahoma (4-1) moved up one spot and is now tied for 18th in the AP Poll and ranks 16th in the Coaches Poll. Seven SEC teams are still ranked ahead of Oklahoma, with Texas A&M climbing to No. 15 in the AP Poll and 14th in the Coaches Poll, while Missouri fell to 21st and 18th, respectively, after a 41-10 loss to the Aggies.
Texas is now No. 1 in both major polls. The Longhorns were already ranked No. 1 in the AP Poll, while Alabama, which had topped the Coaches Poll after defeating Georgia, fell to No. 7 in both polls following an upset loss to unranked Vanderbilt.
The SEC leads all conferences with nine teams in the top 25 of both major weekly polls, while the Big 12 and Big Ten each have six ranked teams. Oklahoma and Texas will be part of one of the marquee matchups next weekend, meeting for the 120th edition of the Red River Rivalry. With both teams coming off a bye week, they should be well-rested for the showdown in Dallas. Texas is favored, but Oklahoma has won seven of the last ten meetings.
